Etta James - Sings Funk

Etta James is a fkn amazing vocalist. I first came across her when I heard her 50's trax on the Gaz Rockin' Blues comp (earlier post) and her vocals just stoood out big time and I was hooked

She carried on singing never reaching the fame her soooperb vocals deserved. Perhaps her love of a parttttttyyyyy then unfortunately the needle denied her the reputation she sooooo deserved.

There is much to choose from, but right noiw I just love this album of soul "n" funk. Fkn genuis and what a fkn voice, seriously what a fkn voice. GET ON THIS and ENJOOOYYYYYYYYYYYYY.

Someone once told me you only need 1 good funk compilation. I've never heard so much bllks in all my life. As long as they are good you need mooooooooorrreeeeeeeeeeeeee.

And this is a fkn good album, from the Memphis based label.

The tracks come fro the time soul was moving into funk and they are fkn great.

This album led me to so many more artists.

Sophisticated, soul drenched, laid back killer funk from Curtis Mayfield.

His amazing vocals seamlessly knit with the instrumental prowess on show here make for something a bit special.

I just fkn loooooove this album with its coool vibe running through the most chilled out funk you're gonna hear.

You know what you've gotta do. Enjoy

Various Artists - James Brown's Funky People

The first of a 3 album collection that everyone who loves a bit of funk should own.

All of the tracks are from the James Brown stable and most have been sampled here there and fkn everywhere so you'll find them familiar.

Proper hard basslines, funky beats, blinding vocals, the occasional jazzy vibe all add up to a must have album.

The Meters - Look-Ka Py Py

The second Album from the amaaazzzzzzzzzzing New Orleans funk band.

These guys have backed just about anybody who is anybody, but by god they really, really do the job and some on their tunes.

They influenced the whole world of funk including more recent funk rock bands. Proper tight, raw, funk.

I got into these via a New Orleans funk compilation, which they rocked. Just fkn listen to them. Then again and again and again

David Holmes presents Free Association

Bloody hard to catagorise this without putting off people who would love it.

This album is the product of a David Holmes led project, it kinda mixes Jazzy Rock, a bit of punk attitude and proper Funk with a hard edge of hip hop influence

This album is brilliant, even if you are not totally convinced by my description just give it a try. You will not regret it

VA - kent 238 double shot of soul

Great album from Kent who raided the vaults of the Double Shot label for these great tracks.

Shuggie Otis - Inspiration information.

Psychedelic Soul, layed back funk, souled up blues no idea how to categorise this exactly other than fkn excellent

This album is absolutely amazing I came across a couple or three years ago and it has theme tuned every sunny day since.

It was hidden away, known to little more than the real soul obsessives out there since its release in the early 70's and then it was re-released, to the purists disappointment, on CD.

This awesome collection of brilliant tunes includes the original of Strawberry letter 23, which the Brothers Johnson were so successful with. Once you have listened to Shuggie do this song, you will never be able to go back to the well known version (good quality steak vs value burger). In fact as you listen to it you will start to realise how many other artists have been influenced by this hidden gem.

Listen to this album, you will not regret it. Enjoy then encourage others to do the same

Keb Darge's Legendary Deep Funk, Vol.1

You may have noticed by now that I am no music snob and I do love a good compilation, onus on the good.

By god this a a f#ckn amazing compilation of deep, deep funk put together by the legendary Northern soul and Deep funk DJ. F#'k me he knows his stuff.

Get all over this. Track list in comments

Remember above all else funk is not the muppet music blaring out of mark 1 escorts which was often the prelude to an "encounter" with our wedgeheaded mortal enemies.

The JB's - Food for Thought

The JB's, James Brown's backing band, let loose on their own always produced awesome funk and this was one of their better known albums.

Many of the tracks on this album will sound familiar as they have been sampled time and time again

If you have any liking at all for early funk this is a must. Try "n" then buy.

Funkadelic - Funkadelic

The band debut album and definately the best introduction to their spaced out, trippin, f#cked up funk.

It has got to be one of the greatest funk albums, as long as you like it tripppyyyyyyyyyy.

James Brown - Turn it Loose

How do you start with JB. I'm lucky enough to have seen him live and he could rock a tent. The godfather himself, it's another great compilation with a fine track list. Go for it.

Soon I'll do some JB's which will really funk you

Bar Keys - Soul Finger

First heard soul-finger in an allnighter in Morecombe on a rally in the mid eighties. It is a great track which years later led me to dig deeper to find out about the Bar-Keys. This is their first album that is out of the stax/volt archive and is worth any persons time who enjoys the soul/funk cusp. 4 members died in the same air crash that killed Otis Redding.

Thanx

It takes a minute, you don't have to leave your name, no-ones making money, so do the right thing. Ta

How Do I Use Rapidshare etc ?????????

When you first start checking out what is available on the internet it can be confusing.

On Blogs you will often see links to music (MP3's) and full albums or full CD's to the following sites:
Rapidshare, Megaupload, Mediafire, Megashare, Depositfiles, Sendspace, Hotfile, Badongo, Turboupload, Yousendit etc.
All of these sites want you to pay to join them, however they can be used to free.
  • Stick the link (copy and paste) in your browser (or in some cases simply click the the link).
  • You will be taken to a page that will offer you free or "premium" option.
  • Go for the free. Some sites (e.g Megaupload) will aske you to enter a short, displayed code. Do it.
  • You will now have to wait for the time the screen tells you.
  • When the countdown finishes click "download now". Your music is now downloading.
  • When it finishes it will be either a file ending in .zip or .rar. Windows will open .zip. if it is .rar file then download 7zip (google it), it's free and it works or buy Winrar.
  • On some sites there are limits on how often you can download a file. (Not mediafire)
  • unplugging the internet and restarting it may cheat the limits.
  • Let me now how you get on
